In Warsaw's Concept 11 space, you will be able to see the first solo exhibition in Poland by Fernando Varela - a South American artist who weaves spiritual meanings and symbolism into geometric compositions. Previously, the artist's works were exhibited in New York, Santo Domingo and Santiago de los Caballeros, among others. "Echoes of the Other" will be presented on September 3-30. The exhibition is co-organized by the Heliconia Projects gallery.
The artist's artistic practice includes not only painting, but also sculpture or music. His works are significantly influenced by philosophy, and among his greatest inspirations he mentions the compositions of Fryderyk Chopin. What can we expect from the exhibition project that Varela prepared especially for the Warsaw studio?
The Concept 11 space will feature both older and newer Varela designs. The Dominican-Uruguayan artist does not give up his themes, in the latest series "Straight and Curved" returning to reflections on existential topics. This time, the starting point for him is the observation of another painter, Paul Klee, who claimed that "the line is the dot that went for a walk". This slogan is an excuse for deeper reflection. Vareli is not simply interested in two orders of movement (straight or curved), but in what they bring, their metaphors of duality. "The line becomes the beginning and boundary for him, the meeting point of matter with the intangible," as we learn from the press release.
